About Us
JR's Pizza has been Blind River's trusted Pizza Shop for over 35 years offering take-out, mobile and catering service
JR's Pizza was founded in 1989 by Richard and Susan Mayer
After working 20 years for other business owners in the community she decided to take the leap of faith along side her partner and loving husband Richard.
They purchased a chip stand, and started selling their product out of the chip stand in the parking lot of where Tim Hortons is now.
This was the beginning of JR's Chuckwagon !
After about 1 year of serving Blind River with their favourite burgers, fries, hot dogs, and poutine, Sue and Richard purchased the commercial property at 15 Lachore. (Right on the Trans Canada highway)
After purchasing the commercial property, next on the list was a new trailer. They sold their current chip stand, and started building additions to the trailer to accommodate their business. They continued serving "chuckwagon" food .
In approximately 1996 JR's Chuckwagon (chip stand) introduced pizza to their business and the rest is history... quickly after starting to serve pizza they became a "have to try" spot along highway 17 between Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie! Sue and Richard continued to persevere throughout the years.
In 2017, John Mayer, their son, left Cameco, the local uranium refinery in Blind River as a process operator to take over the family business. This is when JRs Chuckwagon officially became JRs Pizza
In 2019, we were able to throw a big party to celebrate 30 years in Business with our whole community with live music and great food.
In 2022 JR's Pizza moved to 18 Hawkins Street in Blind River, Ontario . This property is 1 block away from the original. This is to be the temporary location of JRs Pizza so they can renovate 15 Lachore St location.
In 2023 JR's Pizza started a mobile wood fire / smoker division that attended many events including Woodfire Wednesdays at JR's Pizza, Blind River Rib Fest, Elliot Lake Street Dance and Heritage Days, Thessalon Community Days, North Shore's 50th Anniversary Shania Twin Concert, and the Massey Fair.
